Is the programme suitable for someone with no music background? How do you make it work?

We make music accessible to all, regardless of ability! Someone who does not read notes can play with the different elements of music, such as rhythm, volume and tempo. They can explore timbre (the quality of sound produced by an instrument or voice) by trying out instruments made of wood, metal, beads etc. They may also play rhythmic games and simple accompaniments to a song.

In the MoveMe! programme, it is the facilitator’s job to scaffold activities for success. This is done through a process of listening and observation (getting to know participants), combined with knowledge in music facilitation, and skills in teaching, improvisation and communication.

What about people with movement difficulties?

Activities can be adapted to suit the participants! We can move to music using our arms, legs, shoulders, fingers, head… even eyes and eyebrows. We can move standing, sitting or lying down.

For participants with limited physical mobility, props may be used to augment their movements. For those with poor body awareness or coordination difficulties, movements are broken down into the most basic elements, or done at a pace that is manageable.

How can a person with autism or dementia benefit from participating in a MoveMe! session?

Participants can improve listening skills, work on motor skills, focus, attention, memory and more.

Each session also provides opportunities for social engagement. Participants get to work with others in a supportive atmosphere. Each person is given the space to be seen/heard, and empowered to contribute something to the session.

Just as importantly, they may simply experience the joy of music and discover the pleasure of movement!

What age groups do you work with?

All ages! From preschool to school-aged children, to adults and seniors.

Do you have photos or videos to show?

Yes! They are not put online due to client confidentiality, but we can arrange for a viewing.
